Tips to Get in Shape on a Budget

We understand that there are plenty of things standing in your way of getting a good workout, but money shouldn't be one of them. Nix the expensive gyms, trainers, and fad diets. Instead, check out these great ways to get in shape and stay in shape on a budget:

  1. Embrace your city's free facilities. Whether you live in a small town or a big city, your area certainly has some free public facilities for you to take advantage of. In addition to free public facilities, many schools and local councils will keep their own facilities free and open, such as swimming pools. Do a little research and you're sure to find a goldmine of opportunities just around the block from your work and home!

  2. Ride a bike to work or to the grocery store.  It's much easier to change a daily habit than to completely add something new. If your commute allows it, consider riding a bike to work, to school, or with your kids to their school. Start out slowly: Begin doing it just once a week and increase as you feel more comfortable. If biking to work isn't feasible, consider using a bike and a trailer when going for a quick grocery store trip. Biking is a great way to save money and get in shape while doing so.

  3. Download a few apps.  If you own a smartphone or tablet you also own access to your own personal trainer and nutritionist. Apps are ideal for squeezing in fast and easy exercise routines at home, with the added benefit of needing just a bit of floor space to get those personal toning routines done. There are also a ton of other free apps that will help you tailor a diet plan, get recipe tips, and track your fitness goals. For some inspiration, follow a few fitness celebrities on Instagram.
